Imagine stepping into a world where nature and humanity blend, a place where plants are not just around humans but a part of us. This is the world I want to bring to life through my work. Growing up, I never truly appreciated the value of the plants around me. What started as a chore as a child, watering flowerpots and tending to the family garden each summer, became a quiet, alluring beauty. At the same time, I remember as a child the toughest thing I had to do in school was simply pick and read a book. I always grabbed the alluring and pleasing picture books because the images seemingly spoke much more than the words. Both plants and picture books were quiet and spoke for themselves. This fascination with visuals led me to Living Layers, a 360-degree pop-up artist’s book that combines digital collage, typography, and augmented reality to immerse viewers in a surreal, hybrid world of plant-human figures. By merging the physical and digital, I invite viewers to walk through the scene and reflect on the beauty and imaginative link to nature. The combined layers are created to spark wonder and remind us of the quiet, yet rooted relationship we share with the world around us.

Creation Process
Book - AR - Poster
My book is 26 pages, with a custom title on the front cover and a QR code for the AR version on the back. The process started with sketches and layouts, followed by taking photos of college materials. I edited these images in Photoshop, adjusting colours and removing elements. After organizing the layers, I exported the pages as PNGs. For the title, I designed a leafy, shadowed text to match the theme "Living Layers." As for the AR process, I created a project in Hoverlay, added the PNG pages and extra objects, and included interactive audio. I then printed the pages on card-stock and prepared black silhouettes of the pages as PNGs in Photoshop, converted them to vector lines and exported them as PDFs in Illustrator for the laser cutter. I carefully aligned each page to cut with the laser cutter, and then I drilled binding holes and sewed the pages together using the Coptic binding method. Finally, I created posters with AR instructions, selecting the one with the best readability.

Augmented Reality - Illustrations, Texts, 3D Models, and Posters
2024 - 2025
Nature Hunt is an augmented reality (AR) scavenger hunt. Inspired by a love for local plants and the prairie landscape, the project invites users to uncover native Saskatchewan perennials "hidden" under the snow in Regina’s Victoria Park. Using the Hoverlay app, participants explore the park, discover illustrated plants, and learn fun facts, highlighting the absence of native flora in urban spaces. I blended creativity, design, and AR technology to help Saskatchewanians reconnect with the beauty of their local environment.
